Defying the rules of "old luxury," the 2001 Lincoln LS makes a bold statement of American luxury, combining style, power and spirited performance in a premium automotive package.
"In its short history, LS has defined American luxury," says Lincoln President Mark Hutchins. "It is a perfect balance of sport, comfort and style, redefining what luxury is to American consumers. LS is much more than the traditional luxury market defined only by comfort and status. LS is an icon for the new luxury market - fresh, clean, attractive and comfortable."
New For 2001
Introduced in 1999 as a 2000 model, there are several enhancements for Lincoln LS in the 2001 model year, including:
- Lincoln Complimentary Maintenance
- All-Speed Traction Control standard on the V-6 manual
- Glow-in-the-dark manual trunk release
- Rear-seat lower (upper introduced in 2000) child-safety seat tether anchors
- Additional power point added to the rear of the front center console
- Compass included in the electrochromic interior rearview mirror (optional on V-6 models)
- Four new exterior colors
- Optional 17-inch chrome wheel with Sport Package
- Valet key
An All-Around Performer
The Lincoln LS offers demanding high-end customers a balance of style, comfort, luxury and spirited performance. The standard 210-horsepower 3.0L DOHC V-6 engine can be combined with a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission, blending with performance driving dynamics. The Getrag transmission is manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany, specifically for luxury driving enthusiasts.
The SelectShift Automatic™ transmission gives customers the relaxing option of letting the LS transmission do all the work - or taking control of the shifting themselves when they're feeling sporty.
The optional 252-horsepower 3.9L DOHC V-8 engine uses a true dual exhaust system for optimum engine performance.
Near 50/50 weight distribution - unusual for a luxury vehicle - contributes to sure-footed ride and handling, and the optional AdvanceTrac™ interactive vehicle dynamics system enhances the driver-responsive performance.
Anti-lift/anti-dive front and rear suspension geometry removes the uncomfortable and performance-dampening pitch backward/forward every time the car accelerates or stops.
Practical Luxury
Staying true to the theme of American luxury, the LS is not showy or ostentatious. It puts a premium on creature comforts without drawing undue attention to itself.
For instance, the memory driver's seat programs up to two specific drivers' exact seating, mirror and steering column positions (optional on V-6 and standard on V-8). Raised "theater-style" seating in the rear allows rear-seat passengers to feel less isolated from those in front. Optional heated front seats mean comfort in cooler climates or a little extra heat for those carefree late summer night drives with the windows down.
Dual automatic temperature control means never hearing "it's too cold/hot in here. Turn off the fan" from the front passenger.
As Good As It Looks
The Lincoln LS has an understated look of contemporary luxury. The style matches the car itself - not showy, but the classic look of a true American beauty. The classic vertical trademark Lincoln waterfall grille is unmistakably Lincoln, and the integrated headlamps give a European flavor to a car quintessentially American.
Short front- and rear-overhangs are in keeping with the quiet elegance of this car that need not be pretentious. Inside, the tastefully appointed interior includes polished wood with burled walnut appliqués.
Lincoln LS is manufactured at the Wixom Assembly Plant in Wixom, Mich.
