2001 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR PUTS THE DRIVER IN COMPLETE CONTROL
Jim O'Sullivan, Lincoln Group brand manager, says "Lincoln Navigator raised the bar in the sport utility segment by proving that a rugged and powerful truck also can be a true luxury vehicle. Navigator is every inch a standout SUV, but its level of comfort features and luxury amenities mean it also is every inch a Lincoln."
The 2001 Lincoln Navigator offers outstanding luxury in a full-size SUV, along with innovative features that give the driver a sense of complete control. With outstanding power, a spacious and very comfortable interior and sophisticated technology, Navigator is positioned as the premium leader in sport utility vehicles.
New for 2001
For 2001, Navigator features Lincoln's new Complimentary Maintenance Program that provides no-charge regular maintenance for the first three years or 36,000 miles. Lincoln is the first domestic luxury manufacturer to provide this service free of charge.
Auxiliary climate control is now standard on 4x2 and 4x4 models. The second- and third-row seats are now fitted with LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren).
Complete Driving Confidence
The feeling of control in Navigator begins with its responsive 5.4L DOHC V-8 engine that produces 300 horsepower. Standard four-wheel disc Antilock Braking System provides controlled stopping power in emergency situations, and speed-sensitive, variable-assist power steering provides excellent feel on the highway and more maneuverability in tight situations.
Navigator continues to offer standard Control Trac® four-wheel drive. In "4x4 Auto" the system continuously monitors conditions and adjusts front wheel torque up to 50 times per second. In "4x4 High" the system locks the front and rear driveshafts together into a 50/50 torque split for optimal traction in severe weather and off-road conditions. In "4x4 Low," it locks the front and rear driveshafts together, but adds a 2:48:1 gear reduction for low-speed off-road driving. This is ideal for situations that demand extra pulling power such as towing a boat out of the water.
High Technology
The optional Vehicle Navigation System gives visual and aural driving directions via a CPU and monitor using a Map Data CD and GPS satellite tracking. The system eliminates the need to consult a cumbersome map while trying to find a location. When "emergency" is selected from the main menu, the screen will display the vehicle's current position along with an emergency phone number, including a user-programmable assistance number.
The Luxury of Navigator
The introduction of Navigator set a new benchmark for luxury in a sport utility vehicle, and for 2001, Navigator continues to pamper its buyers. Leather seating surfaces are standard, and the low-back front bucket seats are power adjustable with extended power lumbar and offer premium comfort for prolonged driving without fatigue. The fold-flat second-row seating provides low-back reclining bucket seats with a second-row floor console that includes cup holders and storage. The third-row seating has a tip/fold-up stow and lock bench with roller system that allows for quick removal when extra cargo space is desired.
Inside, there is no mistaking the true luxury character of Navigator. The available climate-controlled seating system is an especially nice touch on leather-trimmed seats that can be hard in cold weather or sticky in hot weather. The system provides thermal comfort in 2-3 minutes and includes a thumbwheel switch to control the amount of heating or cooling desired. It also constantly monitors ambient conditions and the seat surface temperatures to ensure maximum comfort.
Nudo® leather seating surfaces are standard on Navigator and real wood accents provide an understated elegance. All window and lock controls are illuminated. Solar-tinted windows and Privacy Glass™ help keep the interior from fading. The Privacy Glass™ is located along the rear doors, quarter windows and rear window to provide added vehicle security and help lower interior temperature for added comfort.
Navigator also features standard power adjustable accelerator and brake pedals. They provide more flexibility for different- sized drivers. Illuminated running boards are standard. Available options include an Alpine audio system, a Reverse Sensing System and a power moonroof.
The spaciousness of Navigator's interior is a big plus. It can comfortably seat up to eight, with a maximum cargo volume of 109.9 cu. ft. There is plenty of convenience to go with that size. Tie-down hooks are recessed below the carpet height to help secure cargo and remain out of the way when not in use. A removable pocket-style cargo area net spans the width of the liftgate from the beltline to the floor to help secure loose items. And storage bins on both sides of the cargo area can be used to keep items out of view - an important security consideration.
A 30-gallon fuel tank contributes to a long cruising range.
