Design
The Lincoln LS has an understated look of contemporary luxury. The long wheelbase of the LS results in a greenhouse that sits entirely between the wheels. The narrowed body, which widens at the wheels, provides a wide stance and a stable appearance.

Short front and rear overhangs are in keeping with the quiet design elegance. The front bumpers, license plate recess and the window surrounds are all accented with chrome.

LS has a trademark Lincoln waterfall grille with chrome header and a Lincoln star. LS's headlamps are integrated into the body surface, and the fog lamps have a complex reflector design that helps improve visibility in poor weather. The dual exhaust pipes curve down at each lower rear corner and are concealed by the rear bumper fascia.

The interior has a polished wood appearance with burl walnut veneers, which provides a warm, luxurious touch. A center console that allows visiblity by both the driver and the passenger divides the cockpit-type dash.

Packaging
The LS features two front-door storage areas that contain a fixed storage bin toward the front and elasticized soft vinyl pouch/map pocket at the rear.

Merino carpeting provides added comfort and a rich look.

The driver's seat offers eight-way power adjustment, while the front passenger seat has six-way power adjustment. Both front seats feature two-way head restraints.

The LS has a memory driver's seat feature that has a system that can accommodate three different seating, steering wheel and mirror positions. This feature is optional on the V-6 but standard on the V-8.

Optional heated front seats are avaiable, and theater-style seating provides better visibility for rear-seat passengers while creating extra room under the vehicle for a larger fuel tank.

The 60/40 split fold-down rear seatbacks offer cargo-carrying flexibility. The rear-seat armrest has a dual-molded cup holder.

An electronic message center allows drivers to access vital vehicle information, including; maintenance requirements, fuel economy and fuel status.

The dual automatic temperature control allows different temperature settings for the driver and front passenger. The LS has an air filtration system that keeps out more than 90 percent of dust, pollen and particulates.

Powertrain
The standard 220-horsepower 3.0L, DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine has 215 lb.-ft of torque at 4800 rpm and can be combined with a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission, blending performance with driving enjoyment. The Getrag is manufactured in Stuttgart, Germany, specifically for luxury driving enthusiasts.

The optional 3.9L, DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine produces 252 horsepower with 261 lb.-ft of torque at 4300 rpm. It uses a hydraulic cooling fan for quiet operation and less drain on the electrical system.

Ride and Handling
The LS has near 50/50 weight distribution, in which weight is distributed evenly over all four tires for more balanced and effective braking. This design contributes to sure-footed ride and handling. The battery is mounted in the rear, which helps to equalize weight.

The optional Advance Trac™ interactive vehicle dynamics system enhances the responsive performance. Anti-lift/anti-dive front and rear suspension geometry limits uncomfortable pitching backward and forward during acceleration or stopping.

The LS has engine speed sensitive steering that provides more assistance at low speeds for easy maneuverability and less resistance at high speeds for a more sporting feel.

Safety and Security
The Lincoln LS has new generation driver and right front passenger airbags, which take into account seating position to offer optimal protection. Rear-seating positions have three upper and two lower child-safety seat tether anchors.

The fuel pump inertia shutoff switch automatically cuts the fuel supply to the engine in the event of a collision. LS has a standard anti-lock braking system, with electronic brake force distribution for enhanced stopping power from its four-wheel power vented disc brakes.

For enhanced visibility in bad weather, windshield wipers activate automatically when they detect moisture on the windshield. A glow-in-the-dark manual trunk release offers protection against entrapment. The Securilock™ passive anti-theft system and perimeter alarm are standard on all LS models.
