The 2002 Lincoln Town Car delivers the ultimate in comfort and convenience in a full-size package that provides a relaxing driving environment. Town Car is for drivers who value comfort and space above all else, and it delivers an extremely high level of interior amenities, along with a smooth, quiet ride.
Town Car models include the Executive, Signature, Touring Sedan and Cartier. The Executive L and Cartier L models have a wheelbase six inches longer than the other models, proving exceptional room and comfort.
Design
Modern styling complements the classic Lincoln image. The vehicle has the trademark Lincoln waterfall grille, chrome accents that highlight the window frames, rear license plate surround, side marker lamps, door handles and wheels and wraparound lamps that integrate themselves into Town Car's sleek bodywork.
The aerodynamic profile lowers the vehicle's coefficient of drag, improving fuel efficiency and reducing wind noise.
Town Car's rear styling is bold, modern and functional. The vertical taillamps complement the vehicle's sculpted look, while the large backup lights provide increased light output for enhanced visibility while reversing. The chrome license plate surround enhances the distinctive styling.
Packaging
With its spacious interior and extremely high level of personal amenities, the 2002 Lincoln Town Car surrounds the driver and passenger with an aura of luxury, such as leather seating surfaces.
Both driver and front passenger have eight-way power adjustable seats with power lumbar. Up to three drivers can personalize the seat, mirror and power adjustable pedal settings.
The available easy entry/exit driver's seat feature moves the seat to the end of the seat track to provide more room to enter and exit. When the ignition key is inserted, the seat returns to original memory position.
The interior includes plush 18-ounce passenger compartment carpet, driver and passenger front seatback map pockets, premium leather trim seating, coat hooks integrated with leather roof assist handles and stylish wood trim applique.
Town Car has 112.3 (120.1 with L-Series) cubic feet of passenger space and a trunk that offers 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space.
The headlamps turn on automatically when the windshield wipers are activated, and power adjustable accelerator and brake pedals are now standard. No-dime daytime dash lights also have been added.
Powertrain
The 4.6L, SOHC 16-valve V-8 engine produces 220 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 265 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm for the Executive and Signature series.
Dual exhaust on the Signature Touring Sedan and Cartier series helps to boost horsepower to 235 at 4,750 rpm. The vehicle's electronic engine control system determines the optimum shift points for maximum performance and smooth shifting.
Ride and Handling
The comfort of the 2002 Town Car also is apparent on the highway. Its rear-wheel driver provides excellent road feel and a luxurious ride.
The Watt's linkage rear suspension improves straight-ahead tracking, and side-to-side stability. The front suspension allows bumps in the road to be absorbed independently.
Town Car has engine speed-sensitive steering that provides a more controlled feel at highway speeds and extra maneuverability at low speeds. The triple-sealed doors, side window glass and aerodynamic profile minimize wind noise.
As with all 2002-model Lincoln vehicles, Town Car has Lincoln Complimentary Maintenance, with no-charge regular scheduled maintenance provided for 3 years/36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Safety and Security
Town Car's safety system includes second-generation front airbags that work in conjunction with the three-point safety belt system and driver and passenger front and side-impact airbags.
Other features include four-wheel anti-lock braking and all-speed traction control.
Security features include SecuriLockTM passive anit-theft system, SmartLockTM anti-lockout system and rear door child-safety locks.
